International railroad business-forum opens in Sochi

The International railroad business-forum ‘Strategic Partnership 1520’
will be held in Sochi on the 26th-28th May, Yuga.ru reports citing the
press-service of ‘RZD’.


Representatives from federal agencies and regional administrations,
the largest international transport companies and freighters and
bankers will participate in the forum. The ‘RZD’ delegation will be
headed by the company’s president Vladimir Yakunin.


The forum’s main issues are inviting investments into railroads,
integration of the railroad business ‘Space 1520’ and all other
participants in the Eurasian transport system, modernization of tarifs
and preparations for the Sochi 2014 Olympic Games.


1520 millimetres is the official rail gauge width of the CIS and
Baltic countries, Mongolia and Finland. The total length of 1520 mm
railtrack on these territories exceeds 150,000 km. This railroad gauge
is also called the ‘widened’, compared with the ‘narrow’ gauge used in
North America, Europe and China, where it is 1435 mm.435 mm.
