New Armenian justice minister vows reforms

New Armenian Justice Minister Grayr Tovmasyan is determined to reform
the ministry, he said at a press-conference, News.am reports.


The minister proposed fundamental steps. He emphasized that his
appointment had split the public attitude towards him between people
who have hopes and people who expect him to fail.


Tovmasyan stressed work with the public and within the ministry. He
reminded journalists that there are 8,000 people working in the
ministry. The minister said that many people are indifferent to work
and are concerned with their own wealth.


He emphasized on the need for institutional reforms in the ministry.
Special attention must be paid to liberalizing the notarial system,
establishment of a competition in the sphere to reduce the prices for
notarial services and queues.


As an example, Tovmasyan mentioned the fact that people will need only
5 days for services at the Civil Registry Office, instead of a month.
