Interreligious council of CIS to get board of trustees

During the session of the Interreligious Council of the CIS in Baku, a
decision to create a board of trustees was made on Sunday. It will
raise funds for organising conferences and creating and maintaining an
internet site for the council. The proposal was put forward by the new
president of the council, Moscow Patriarch Kirill, and was supported
by its members, Trend reports.

During the session, the head of the PR department of the Russian
Orthodox Church, archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin, was elected president of
the executive committee, and priest Grigoriy Roschin was elected
coordinating secretary of the committee.

Kirill said at the opening of the session that important changes and

crises are happening at the moment, so the creation of the committee
is a practical as well as symbolic event.

"People will see that the leaders of religions can agree. This example
will have a significant influence on society",  the patriarch said.
"We should avoid double standards in the world. The interreligious
council does not demand compromise from anyone, everyone will stay
true to their own interests".

He also said he was sure that the present summit would help to improve

interreligious relations on CIS territory.

The summit of religious leaders of CIS started in Baku on April 25th.
