Governmental Commission on Development of North Caucasus to hold meeting

The first meeting of the governmental commission on the socio-economic
development of the North Caucasian Federal District will take place
tomorrow, under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.

The participants will discuss implementation of the federal program for
the development of Northern Caucasus and in particular Ingushetia and
Chechnya, the press service of the Cabinet of the Russian Federation
informs.

Since 2008, the North Caucasus has received 91.3 billion rubles for
development, of which 74.4 billion rubles (81.5%) were from the
federal budget, 7 billion (7.7%) - from the budgets of the subjects of
the Russian Federation and 9.9 billion rubles (10.8%) - from private
investors. Due to these investments, the average unemployment rate has
decreased more than 10% since 2008 and the consolidated per capita
budget grew by 50% over the last three years.

A source in the Russian government told RIA Novosti that, according to
government analysts, the best programs are being implemented in the
Chechen Republic, both in terms of co-financing from the budget of the
region and attracting extra-budgetary sources.

The North Caucasian Federal District was formed just over a year ago,
on the 19th of January 2010. Alexander Khloponin was appointed
Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the North Caucasian Federal
District.
