The president of Ukraine, Viktor Yanukovych, and the prime minister of
Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, signed a joint declaration on the
establishment of a high-level Strategic Council between Ukraine and
the Republic of Turkey, Trend reports.
The document is aimed at formalizing the already existing relations
between Ukraine and Turkey to the level of a strategic partnership.
A Joint Strategic Planning Unit under the chairmanship of the Foreign
Ministers of the parties will be established in order to discuss key
issues of bilateral cooperation. The council will meet at least once a
year.
In addition, a number of bilateral documents were signed in the
presence of Yanukovych and Erdogan, in particular, an
intergovernmental agreement on the organization of a direct
international freight railway-ferry connection between Ukraine and
Turkey.
