OSCE displeased with amendments to Armenian media bill

The amendments on the Armenian bill on television and radio do not
consider a number of significant and fundamentally important issues,
the head of the OSCE office in Yerevan, Ambassador Sergey Kapinos,
told journalists.

According to the ambassador, the democratic process is associated
primarily with promoting the rule of law.  He expressed his hopes that
a team formed by the president and headed by the ombudsman will
redouble their efforts and achieve significant new amendments to the
law on TV and radio.

The law provides establishment of a digital broadcasting network in
Yerevan which will embrace 18 television and 12 radio stations. The
transition to a digital broadcasting in Armenia compels with the
country's obligations towards the EU.
