Russian and Iranian Ministers of Justice to sign agreement

The Russian and Iranian Ministries of Justice are expected to sign several agreements on future cooperation to ensure safety at sea and their joint fight against drug trafficking, Trend reports.

Last week the Russian Ministry of Justice handed over the draft documents for the legal procedures to Tehran. They will be signed by the end of the year during Russian Minister of Justice Alexander Konovalov's visit to Tehran.

The Ministries of Justice of the two countries will also cooperate in combating illicit drug trafficking from Afghanistan as Russia and Iran are at a junction of drug routes.

In December 2010 the two countries signed a memorandum of understanding to enhance cooperation in combating drug production and trafficking.

Earlier in January, in a telephone conversation Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and his Iranian counterpart Mahmoud Ahmadinejad emphasized the desire to promote mutual cooperation between the two countries in all spheres.
