The law enforcement bodies of the North Caucasus seized over 2 tons of
drugs, mostly marijuana, from illegal trafficking in 2010, according
to the head of the state anti-drug committee in the district, Igor
Gorkov, RIA Novosti reports.
As noted by Gorkov, the greatest weight in the confiscated amount is
made up of plant-based drugs, particularly marijuana, with a share of
84.7% in the amount of seized drugs. This can be explained by climatic
conditions favourable for the cultivation of narcotic plants.
He added that security forces seized nearly 14 kilograms of heroin, 42
kilograms of hashish and 131 kilograms of poppy straw.
