Astana to host SCO summit on June 15

Astana will host a summit of the SCO (Shanghai Cooperation
Organization) on June 15, the press-service of the Kazakh Ministry of
Foreign Affairs reports.


The SCO members (China, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Russia, Tajikistan and
Uzbekistan) approved the proposal of Kazakh President Nursultan
Nazarbayev to hold the 10th anniversary summit in Astana. Kazakhstan
chairs the organization in 2011.


Beijing held the council of national coordinators of the SCO members
on January 25-28.


The SCO was established in 2001. Its main goals are strengthening of
stability and security on the territories of its members, the fight
against terrorism, separatism, extremism, drug trafficking, the
development of economic and energy partnerships, as well as scientific
and cultural dialogues.
