EU foreign ministers of states back strategic partnership with Russia

Ministers of foreign affairs of EU states confirmed a commitment to a
strategic partnership with Russia, RIA Novosti reports, citing a
diplomatic source in Brussels.


Russian-EU ties were discussed at an official lunch in Brussels.
The diplomatic leaders exchanged views on EU priorities in cooperation
with Russia.


Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov said that lifting
the visa regime between Russia and the EU is a test for the strategic
aspect of the bilateral ties.


Russia proposed lifting the visa regime at the Russian-EU summit on
May 31 - June 1, 2010. Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said that
Russia is ready to scrap visas at any time. He urged the EU to come to
an agreement on the issue.
