Kazakhstan may hold early presidential elections on April 3, KazTag reports.


The joint session of both chambers of the Kazakh parliament will pass amendments to the constitutional laws on elections and the presidency on Wednesday. According to the amendments, early elections are announced by the president and are held within 2 months of the announcement, KirTAG reports.


Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev decided not to hold a referendum on the prolongation of his presidential terms until 2020, instead proposing early elections. He announced his decision on Monday.


The Kazakh parliament considered the amendments to the constitutional laws on elections and the presidency. The speaker of parliament announced the calling of a session of the two chambers on February 2. The parliament and the senate are expected to pass the amendments within two readings.
