The head of Ingushetia, Yunus-Bek Yevkurov, gave a big press
conference today at the Interfax News Agency. He stated that in his
opinion the situation in the Northern Caucasus has considerably
stabilized in the past few years.
According to him, Ingushetia has seen progress in terms of the fight
against terrorism, as well as socio-economic development. However, he
disagreed with the statement that in recent years militants have
shifted the emphasis from Chechnya and Ingushetia to Dagestan and
Kabardino-Balkaria.
According to statistics, Ingushetia has the highest birth rate in
Russia and a high level of unemployment. According to official figures
23% of the working population of the republic does not have a job.
Among the young this figure is much higher, reaching 52%.
According to the federal program, in 2011 thousands of new jobs will
be created in Ingushetia.
