Federation Council approves the bill on police
The Federation Council of Russia has approved the bill "On Police." The document was developed as part of the reorganization of the internal affairs structures. It was the first time in the history of the country that a bill was officially discussed by society on the Internet. Some proposals put forward by citizens were included in the project.

The bill presupposes that within the reformation of the internal affairs structures the militia will be changed into the police force. It will lose many additional functions, and the number of staff will be reduced by 20% by the end of 2011. Officers will be included in the police structure only after re-assessment. Only the best of the best will work in the police, the minister of internal affairs claimed.

Military ranks will not be changed.
