Turkish intelligence chief visits Baku

The head of the Turkish National Intelligence Organization Hakan Fidan
has been on a two-day visit to Azerbaijan since February 6, Trend
cites the organization as saying.


Fidan was invited by Azerbaijani Defense Minister Lieutenant-General
Eldar Mahmudov.


The Turkish delegation and Mahmudov visited the Honorary Alley to the
memory of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev, laid the flowers at his
grave. They commemorated an ophthalmology scientist Zarifa Aliyeva.


They visited the Alley of Sheikhs who sacrificed themselves for
independence and territorial unity of Azerbaijan, laid flowers to the
Eternal Fire monument.


They visited the memorial for the Turkish warriors who died in the
fights with Armenian dashnak gangs and regular army, which started a
massacre in Azerbaijan and its capital in 1918.


Mahmudov said that it is Fidan's first visit to Azerbaijan as the
intelligence chief. The Azerbaijani minister gave detailed information
on the situation, measures taken by Azerbaijan, threats arising from
Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.


The sides exchanged views on trans-national organized crime, fighting
extremism and illegal drug-trafficking, migration processes. They
discussed prospects of fruitful cooperation between Turkey and
Azerbaijan.
