The co-chairs of the Minsk Group of the OSCE arrived in the region on a mediation mission. The diplomats first visited Yerevan, meeting with the foreign minister of Armenia, Edward Nalbandyan. A meeting with the president of Armenia, Serge Sargsyan, is planned later. According to the Armenian media, after Yerevan the diplomats will head to Karabakh Khankendi.
Tomorrow the mediators will arrive in Baku, where they will have consultations with Azeri foreign minister Elmar Mamedjarov and the president of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev.
Political experts do not expect any breakthrough from this visit. In reality, it just determines the plan of actions for 2011.
The last contact between the heads of the foreign ministries of Azerbaijan and Armenia took place in Moscow on January 24. The initiator of the meeting was the head of the Russian foreign ministry, Sergey Lavrov.
