Police failed fight against extremism in Kabardino-Balkaria - Khloponin

Alexander Khloponin, plenipotentiary presidential envoy to the North
Caucasian Federal District and Vice-Premier, said that the
law-enforcers need regrouping and improve work in Kabardino-Balkaria,
RIA Novosti reports.

The official said that the police had a "very bad fail in
Kabardino-Balkaria", noting that the situation in some of its villages
is absurd.

He said that there are absolutely no people on duty in some villages,
including the Chegem District at 22.00. "The police simply feel fear.
A car without number plates passes by throwing out leaflets, the
law-enforcing structures failed", Khloponin added.

The envoy reminded about high-profile murders of officials, including
murder of the mufti and head of a region. The number of attacks on
police increased. 42 police officers were killed in 2010. 10 died in
early 2011.

Concerning Bashkiria, Khloponin said that things are not without a
hitch. The situation worsens. There are radical Islam sources and
Wahhabees. However, there are no inter-ethnic conflicts, he said.
