President of Turkey to ask Armenian counterpart to support Turkish candidate as head of OSCE

Turkish President Abdullah Gul is planning to write a letter to his
Armenian counterpart, Serzh Sargsyan, requesting Armenia to support
the candidate from Turkey for the post of Secretary General of the
OSCE. Ambassador Ersin Ercin, the candidate for the post, will
personally deliver the letter to Sargsyan, ANS reports.

Ercin, whose visit to Armenia is expected in March, said that the
letter from Gul "will be a gesture of goodwill towards Armenia."

Besides Ercin, 3 other candidates will be considered for the post of
OSCE secretary general: the chairman of the OSCE Parliamentary
Assembly, Joao Soares, a former Austrian Foreign Minister,Ursula
Plassnik, and a former UN special envoy to Kosovo, Lamberto Zanner, a
native of Italy.
