Iranian authorities to hold demonstration against opposition

Iranian authorities plan to organize a demonstration against the local
opposition leaders that initiated anti-government protests, RIA
Novosti
cites AFP and Iranian state television as saying.

The demonstration will be held by the coordination council of Islam
propaganda on Friday.

Former candidates for president, Mehdi Kyarubi and Mirhussein Musavi,
are considered to be the two main opposition leaders.

Tehran University saw unsanctioned protests on Monday. Kyarubi and
Musavi requested the authorities to permit a protest meeting to
express support for the Egyptian people, whose uprising forced
President Hosni Mubarak to resign.. The request was declined.

The authorities believed that the protesters planned actions against
the government. The opposition held the protests, which turned into
clashes with police. Two people died.

Iranian Speaker Ali Larijani said that Musavi and Kyarubi were
influenced by the USA and "must be hung".
