Adronius Azubalis, Foreign Minister of Lithuania and the
Chairman-in-Office of the OSCE, met the US Secretary of State Hillary
Clinton and high-ranking officials of the US administration. Azubalis
emphasized the devotion of Lithuania to the principles of the OSCE in
settling long conflicts in the OSCE region, support of the media,
establishment and support of trust and energy security, Trend cites an
OSCE statement as saying.
The sides talked on the progress in settling long conflicts. The OSCE
will concentrate on solving the problems in the South Caucasus region.
The OSCE will operate within the Geneva discussions to improve
security and humanitarian demands in the regions suffering after the
war in August 2008. The Minsk Group should be more active in reducing
the tensions around Nagorno-Karabakh.
The mechanism on prevention and reaction to the incidents for the
Georgian-Ossetia issue was established in February 2009 after
discussions in Geneva. The discussions also touched upon potential
risks, information exchange and community problems. Regular meetings
of the mechanism were stopped in October 2009.
