Police may get greater powers in North Caucasus

The office of the Russian authorized presidential envoy to the North
Caucasus Federal District proposed an expansion of the powers of the
main police department in the district by allowing it to control
regional police structures, Yuga.ru reports.


Envoy Alexander Khloponin was interested in monitoring and controlling
subjects of the Interior Ministry and the Main Police Department in
the region, RIA Novosti cites a spokesman of the envoy's office as
saying.
