Foreign ministers of Gulf countries gather in Bahrain

The foreign ministers of member countries of the Cooperation Council of Arab Gulf States (GCC) plan to hold an extraordinary meeting in Bahrain's capital Manama in connection with demonstrations in the country, AFP reports, citing the Foreign Ministry of Bahrain.

The meeting is expected to discuss a plan to support the government of Bahrain in terms of safety and security at the political level, a spokesman said.

The first demonstration was held in Bahrain on Sunday in the Shiite village of Karkazan located in the south of the metropolitan area of Manama. On Monday, in a village of Nuvaydrat on the island of Sitra a second demonstration took place demanding the reform of the government. On Tuesday the clashes with the law enforcement officials caused the first casualties among the demonstrators.

Thousands of demonstrators spent several days in a temporary tent camp on Pearl Square in Manama. On the night of Thursday, police dispersed anti-government protesters in the main square of the capital withtear-gas. Four deaths were reported.
