Arab League summit postponed

Libya, chairman-in-office of the League of Arab League has decided to
postpone a scheduled summit over the disorders in the Arab world, MEHA
reports.


The 23rd summit was to be held in Baghdad on March 29. Libyan leader
Muammar al-Gaddafi will hand the Arab League chairmanship to Iraqi
President Jalal Talabani, RIA Novosti reports.


The summit was postponed due to the unrest in Tunisia, Bahrain and
Yemen, and mass protests in Algeria, Iraq and Jordan. At least 24
people have died in Libya since Tuesday, Reuters cites the police.


Arab media reported earlier that Secretary General of the Arab League
Amr Moussa had planned to resign in March this year after the summit
in Baghdad. Moussa said that he does not exclude his taking part in
presidential elections in Egypt. Moussa was the Egyptian foreign
minister.


Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, who ruled the country for 30 years,
resigned on February 11 after 18 days of civil disorder.The military
said that there will be free presidential elections within 6 months.
