28, RIA Novosti cites the head of the State Statistics Service, Zoya
Avidzba.
The census in Abkhazia will be held within the global census of the UN.
Abkhazia invited statistics officials from Moscow, Adygeya, Rostov and
Krasnodar to monitor the process.
The first census stage started in distant villages of Sukhumi and
Gulripshir Districts, in the villages of Pskhu and Kodori Gorge in
late September. It is the first census in the Kodori Gorge since 1993.
The census will give an image of the ethnic composition, education
level and employment of the country's inhabitants.
Abkhazia will have 680 census-takers, mainly school teachers. They
will be paid 3,600 rubles. The process will not affect any studies.
The census-takers will carry identity documents and special green
cases with all the necessary documentation and flashlights. They will
fill in two forms: a list of the inhabitants in a house or apartment
and a list with 16 questions.
Police officers will provide security for the census officials.
There will be 720 census offices. 40 stationary census offices in
housing management offices and regional administrations have been
organized.
