Turkish president to visit Kazakhstan in May

Turkish President Abdulla Gul will visit Kazakhstan in May, the former Soviet republic’s president Nursultan Nazarbayev has said, News-Kazakhstan reported on Tuesday.

Nazarbayev said Gul would be given a tour of the country’s recently developed Turkic academy.

“There should be study of Turkic history and culture and much should be said about the contribution of the Turkic people to world civilization,” the president said.

Nazarbayev stressed that “Turkic association is a very important theme”.

“The existing Turkic world can be united by nobody else and when Turkey begins to do this it is at once called pan-Turkism, but Kazakhstan has no pan-Turkism that’s why I suggested the Turkic Academy,” he added.
