Tokyo has hosted the 8th session of GUAM on tourism. The meeting was attended by tourism administrations, officials from tourist agencies of GUAM states. Japanese officials and the GUAM Secretariat, Trend cites the Secretariat as saying.
Participants at the summit thanked the well-organized tourism seminar JICA in Tokyo on February 13-26, 2010, and for its active part in promoting GUAM tourism products on the Japanese market.
The sides agreed to recommend the coordinator of the working group, Georgia, to consider holding the ninth session of the RGTOUR with heads of structures responsible for developing tourism in GUAM. The topic for the session is discussion of the action plan for development of a joint GUAM-Japanese tourism product.
The working group will hold a session in Georgia in the second quarter of 2011. The date will be agreed on via diplomatic agencies.
The GUAM format was established in 1997, during an EU summit in Istanbul. Uzbekistan joined the format in 1999 and left it 4 years later. GUAM held its first summit in Kiev in 2006. GUAM announced its new name - the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development.
