Kazakh CEC continues registering candidates for president

The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) of Kazakhstan registered two more candidates for president on Monday. They are Senator Gani Kasymov, with 99,728 votes, and the leader of the eco-alliance, Tabigat Mels Yeleuszov, with over 97,000 votes, the CEC Secretary Bakhyt Medleshev said on Monday.


He clarified that the candidates provided all the necessary documents and gathered over 1% of the population’s signatures each.


The CEC registered a candidate from the Communist Party, Jambal Ahmetbekov, with over 96,000 votes.
Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev, with over 700,000 votes, was the first registered candidate for president.


Registration of candidates starts from presentation of all the necessary documents and ends on March 2. Campaigning starts on March 3 and ends on April 1. Kazakhstan will hold early elections on April 3, 2011. There are 11 candidates for president.
