Karachayevsk City District of Karachay-Cherkessia will establish a public council for inter-ethnic and religious issues.
The public council will be a consulting structure of the city district administration, head of the district Soltan Semenov said. The council will improve inter-ethnic and inter-religious relations and will consist of the most authoritative officials from national organization, religious confessions and youth movements, RIA Novosti reports.
The structure will develop proposals on national policy for local autonomies and prevent religious and political extremism.
The main goal is prevention of the society from splitting and destructive forces from affecting the national map.
Karachayevsk had several peoples living together for decades. Three of the peoples are the Karachays, Russians and Cherkessians, Semenov said.
