Georgia, EU launch simplified visa regime

The introduction of a simplified visa regime with the EU is an important political step, spokesperson of the Georgian president said, News Georgia reports.


The simplified visa regime between Georgia and the EU comes into force on March 1. A deal was signed in June 2010. UK, Denmark, Ireland, Iceland, Norway, Switzerland and Lichtenstein joined the agreement.


The price of a visa for Georgian citizens drops from 60 to 35 euros. The visa-issuing procedure will be simplified for 22 categories of citizens. Visa request fees were lifted for 12 categories.


Individual document reception for visas were defined for 13 categories. 11 categories will receive annual multi-use visas if they have had visas before. They will be able to receive visas for 2-5 years. Multi-use visas for 5 years will apply to certain categories.

Visas will be issued within 10 days after filing a request and providing documents. Visa-issuing may be prolonged to 30 days or take 2 days, depending on the case.

Georgian citizens with diplomatic passports are allowed to stay without visas for 90 days.
