France will not participate in military operations in Libya without a UN resolution

France is not ready to participate in military operations against the Libyan authorities as long as the UN Security Council does not take a collective decision about starting any such venture, French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe said on Tuesday.

"Yes, we agree with the introduction of some sanctions, in particular a no-fly zone over Libya. But I want to say clearly that, without the sanction of the UN Security Council, France will not participate in a military intervention," the French Foreign Minister said.

On Friday the UN Security Council imposed a wide range of sanctions on Libya, including an arms embargo, seizure of foreign accounts of the Libyan leadership, and a travel ban on its representatives in the countries of the UN.
