The Federal Council has approved the presidential bill annulling in the Criminal Code of Russia lower limits of punishment for minor offences.

The bill was introduced to the parliament by the president of Russia, Dmitry Medvedev. The document cancels lower limits of punishment (imprisonment) in more than 60 crimes, whereas their upper limits remain the same.

So the court is enabled to differentiate inflicting penalties. Some crime components are added with such kinds of punishment as fines and correctional labour.
