Iranian vessels return through Suez Canal

The two Iranian vessels that entered Syria through the Suez Canal,are returning home through the waterway on Thursday, Reuters cites the canal’s administration as saying.


The vessels entered the canal at 04.00 (local time).


Frigate Alvand and its supporting vessel Kharg entered the Syrian port Latakia on February 23. Iranian authorities said that the vessels entered Syria, with which Israel is formally at war, to hand over a message of peace and friendship.


Israel called the actions a provocation. Iranian military have not crossed the Suez Canal since the Islamic Revolution in 1979.


The Suez Canal is one of the world’s most significant transport arteries. Vessels use it to travel from Europe to Asia with no need to sale around Africa. The canal sees 45-50 vessels daily.
