The opposition Armenian National Congress demands permission to hold rallies in Liberty Square in Yerevan, the party's coordinator Levon Zurabian said, Novosti-Armenia reports.
Liberty Square in front of the National Academic Opera and Ballet since has served as the venue of mass political action since 1988. After the tragic events of March 1, 2008, which turned into bloody riots, City Hall forbade ANC rallies in Liberty Square.
In case meetings on Liberty Square are still prohibited, the coordinator of the ANC asked for traffic to be completely stopped on Koryun Street, adjacent to the Institute of Ancient Manuscripts, Matenadaran (a traditional venue for opposition protests).
Zurabian noted that these requirements must be met before the next opposition rally, scheduled for March 17.
