Ra’s-Lanuf in the east of the country and Az Zawiyah to the west of Tripoli are experiencing battles between rebels and supporters of Muammar Gaddafi, RIA Novosti cites Al Jazeera as saying.
Ra’s-Lanuf is an important oil export port in Libya, Az Zavia is considered a base for rebel attacks on the capital.
Gaddafi’s air forces attacked the military base at Adzhadabia in the eastern part of Libya where oil facilities are located. Marsa Brega was also attacked.
The Russian Emergencies Ministry is preparing an operation for humanitarian aid to Libya, Minister Sergey Shoigu said at a governmental commission for prevention and resolving of emergency situations, ITAR-TASS reports.
Shoigu said that the situation is especially complicated on the border with Tunisia and Egypt. He thanked the Transport Ministry, the Russian Railways Company and medics from the Healthcare Ministry.
The disorders in Libya started on February 15, inspired by unrest in Tunisia and Egypt, where the presidents resigned. People in Libya are protesting against their leader, Muammar al-Gaddafi, who has been in power for over 40 years. International organizations say that up to 6,000 people have been killed by law-enforcers and foreign mercenaries.
