Ankara is tired of waiting for reciprocal steps from EU

As reported by “Vestnik Kavkaza”, yesterday the European Parliament adopted a tough resolution tough on Turkey. However, MEPs have rejected attempts to include points about the recognition of the "Armenian genocide" in the document.

Commenting on this issue, the political scientist and professor of the TOBB Economics and Technological University, Togrul Ismail, said that the resolutions on Turkey are welcome regarding the changes to the Constitution, but stressed that "full constitutional reform" is still needed in order to make the country truly democratic. Among the important challenges still faci Turkey, MEPs named the problems of freedom of speech, including self-censorship of national media and Internet sites, the position of women and an increasing number of forced marriages, as well as insufficient progress in protecting the rights of national minorities.

The European Parliament also approved the conclusion of negotiations on the agreement on readmission with Turkey, noting that after its entry into force the European Commission should begin a "visa dialogue with special attention to the conditions of entry of businessmen and students."

At the same time, the EP resolution stressed the importance of  the Cyprus problem.
