The Yerevan mayor’s office has not permitted the opposition to hold protests on Freedom Square, News Armenia cites the city administration as saying.
The Armenian National Movement Party requested the mayor’s office to permit the holding of protests on the square at the Spendiarov National Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet from the 18th to the 29th of March from 16:00 to 23:00 (local time).
The opposition planned a march along the route Freedom Square - Mashtots Avenue - Amiran Street, Republic Square – Nalbandian Street – Tumanyan Street – Freedom Square.
The mayor’s office said that the protests were not permitted due to other events planned on the square on March 15.
The opposition was offered a place to hold protests near the Matenadaranu Institute of Ancient Manuscripts. The march route was taken into account, except for March 21, when the People’s Party plans to hold a march.
