Turkey develops cooperation with Tatarstan

Tatarstan and Turkey will have new mutually beneficial projects in various spheres of the economy, Tatar President Rustam Minnikhanov said at a meeting with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.


Erdogan arrived in Kazan from Moscow for a three-day visit on Wednesday.


Minnikhanov said that the relations between Tatarstan and Turkey started with construction businesses and oil supplies. Today the sides cooperate in hi-tech production. He noted that the special economic zone in Alabug is constructing two major wood-processing and glass factories. Turkish manufacturers of car components and Tatar car manufacturers had a fruitful meeting in October 2010.


Minnikhanov said that Turkish business is actively entering Tatarstan and Russia and praised the Turkish premier for these efforts.

Erdogan will visit Kazan State University, where he will meet the Tatar Minister of Education and Science, Albert Gilmutdinov, the head of the university, Ilshat Gafurov, and students and post-graduates from Turkey.


They will visit the sites of the Kazan Kremlin, the mosque of Kul Sharif and the Annunciation Cathedral. Mintimer Shaymiyev, first President of Tatarstan and State Advisor of the republic, will talk on restoration of Orthodox and Muslim shrines in Sviyazhsk and the ancient city of Bolgar.
