Yerevan is ready to listen to advice of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) and work together for solving the existing problems in the country, said President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan at a meeting with PACE co-reporters John Prescott (United Kingdom) and Axel Fischer (Germany), Novosti Armenia reports.
The visit of the reporters of the Monitoring Committee of the PACE, John Prescott and Axel Fischer, will last two days and will focus mainly on studying the results of the investigation into the events of March 2008.
The Armenian opposition, led by first president Levon Ter-Petrosyan, who lost the elections on February 19, 2008, began holding rallies from February 20, 2008, in downtown Yerevan, protesting against the results of the vote. The protests grew into riots on March 1-2 and protesters’ clashed with security forces, leading to ten people being killed and over two hundred wounded.
