US fighter plane crashes in Libya

A US fighter plane has crashed in the operation in Libya, The Daily Telegraph said on Tuesday, RIA Novosti reports.


The paper’s correspondent Rob Cilly said that the F-15E Eagle was found in an unnamed area of Libya. The crash was caused by technical problems. The pilot is said to have been saved by the rebels.


The UN Security Council passed a resolution on March 17, introducing a no-fly zone over Libya to stop air attacks on rebels and the peaceful population. The military operation started on March 19.


The international coalition continues bombing military facilities controlled by the Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi in the east, as well as Tripoli and Sirt. The Libyan authorities report on great casualties and damage caused by the bombing.
