Transit of Russian gas to Armenia has not yet resumed, News Armenia reports citing the press secretary of Armrosgazprom, Shushan Sardaryan. Transit was interrupted due to damage caused by mountain landslides in the North Caucasus section of the pipeline, but "recovery work is in process", she said. According to preliminarydata, three days will be needed to repair the pipeline.
Sardaryan also said that gas supply had not completely stopped in Armenia, with gas being supplied from the Abovyan underground storage plant. The Abovyan gas storage plant usually provides Armenia with gas in times of temporary problems with its usual gas sources. Its capacity is enough to supply the whole country for about 45 days.
"Armrisgazprom" is a monopoly in the sphere of transportation of Russian gas on the internal Armenian market. Gas is transported to Armenia through Georgia. The company was created in 1997. "Gazprom"has an 80% share in the company, the Armenian government possesses
