Turkey to represent US interests in Libya

The USA's interests in Libya will temporarily be represented by Turkey, State Department spokesman Mark Toner said, RIA Novosti reports.

Toner stated that NATO can succeed in the mission in Libya rather than the coalition France-UK-USA. Earlier the US official Ben Rods said that the USA, the United Kingdom and France would give the commanding role to NATO.

On March 17, the UN Security Council March adopted a resolution closing the airspace over by Libya to stop casualties among the rebel forces and civilian population. On March 19, the coalition consisting of the United States, Britain, France and other countries started military operations against Libya.
