Afghan opposition calls for uprising

The leader of the second-largest anti-government armed group in Afghanistan, the Islamic Party of Afghanistan (IAA), the former Prime Minister Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, called on Afghan youth to carry out a rebellion against the regime on Monday, RIA Novosti reports, citing the local media.

In his statement Hekmatyar called the transfer of power from the international coalition forces to the Afghan side the usual propaganda ploy, the agency reports.

Afghan President Hamid Karzai announced on March 22 that, starting from June 22, the provinces of Bamyan, Kabul and Panjshir, except for Soruba county, as well as the provincial centers of the provinces of Laghman, Helmand, Balkh and Heart will come under the control of Afghan security forces.
