Hungarian President Pal Schmitt will visit Azerbaijan in the second half of 2011, Trend cites the Hungarian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Jolt Cutore as saying.
It is the first visit of the Hungarian president to Azerbaijan. The sides will discuss the development of bilateral and regional cooperation.
Cooperation of Azerbaijan and the European Union will be the main topic for discussion. Hungary has been chairing the EU since January.
Hungary has been chairing the Council of Ministers in Brussels since early 2011. Hungary chose strengthening of the Eastern Partnership as a priority. Hungary will supervise the second summit of the Eastern Partnerhip in May 2011.
Eastern Partnership is aimed at rapprochement of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldavia, Ukraine, Belarus and Armenia.
The program does not support EU membership. However, it may provide a simplified visa regime, cooperation in energy, establishment of free trade zones. It will include minor projects on student exchange, environmental protection and energy security.
The Statistics Service of Azerbaijan said that the country’s turnover with Hungary reached $14.3 million in 2010.
