The European Commission hopes that Kazakhstan will take part in a project to construct a sarcophagus at the former Chernobyl nuclear reactor in Ukraine, the head of the EU delegation to Astana, Norbert Jousten, said today, Trend reports.
"We hope that Kazakhstan will take part in the project on financing the closure of the sarcophagus of the reactor at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and the construction of burial places for nuclear waste," Jousten said.
Ambassadors of the European Union, France and Ukraine on Tuesday discussed the security of the nuclear industry with the foreign minister of Kazakhstan, Kanat Saudabayev.
