A group from the Pyatigorsk experimental aviation laboratory 'Scarab'
have assembled an off-roader based on a project created by the head of
their company, aircraft designer and explorer Alexander Begak. They
spent 5 years and used thousands of parts from old cars, RIA Novosti
reports.
The vehicle is unique in its ability to overcome obstacles and climb
mountains. Its tyres have a special design. The vehicle weighs almost
a ton. The max speed is 60 km/h, consuming 4 liters per 100 km. It can
pull a 2 ton trailer, assistant constructor Dmitry Gez explains.
Before the start of the expedition the 4x4 was blessed in a religious
ceremony, although one of its doors broke off after a test ride.
Climbing Elbrus Mountain will be its greatest challenge. The main
objective is placing a flag on a 3000 m peak, in dedication to the
65th anniversary of the Victory.
The expedition starts on Tuesday and is set to ascend Elbrus on Wednesday.
