Abkhazia proclaims Victory Day amnesties

More than sixty inmates will be released in Abkhazia in honour of celebrations for the 65th anniversary of Victory Day on May 9, reports Interfax

"This is the sixth amnesty within last 15 years," parliamentary committee's chairman Vladimir Nachich said, adding that reconviction rates among people pardoned were very low.

More than 18,000 Abkhazians died in World War Two. There are only 400 veterans left alive in the republic.
