CIS foreign ministers to meet in Kiev on April 8

The foreign ministers of CIS member states will meet in Kiev on the 8th of April, said CIS Executive Secretary, head of the CIS observation mission Sergei Lebedev after a meeting with Secretary of State and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Kanat Saudabayev, at a briefing in Astana, Trend reports.

Lebedev said the meeting was focused on the question of preparation of Kazakhstan for the upcoming presidential election and the work of the CIS observation mission. He expressed his hopes that presidential elections in Kazakhstan will be peaceful and democratic.

The pre-election campaign in Kazakhstan will be completed on April 1, while the presidential elections will be held on April 3. The candidates for the post are the current president Nursultan Nazarbayev, the chairman of the Communist Party, Zhambyl Ahmetbekov, the leader of the Party of Patriots, Senator Gani Kasimov and the leader of the environmental union Tabigat, Mels Eleusizov
