Members of the City Duma of Stavropol of the sixth calling elected Duma Speaker Georgy Kolyagin as the city mayor on April 5, RIA Novosti reports.
An initiative group of 19 deputies proposed Kolyagin. He received 26 votes out of 30.
The deputies are also searching for candidates to head the city administration. Igor Bestuzhy is the acting head of the administration.
Stavropol Mayor Nikolai Paltsev filed a resignation note to the governor of Stavropol Territory, Valery Gayevsky, on March 25.
Nikolai Paltsev became vice-premier of the region’s government on March 31. The United Russia party agreed on March 31 to propose the former head of the price commission of the region, Speaker Georgy Kolyagin, to the post of mayor.
