The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has added six new types of sport to the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi in 2012. The decision was made at a session of the IOC executive committee in London, ITAR-TASS reports.
The sports include free-style half-pipe (men and women), women’s ski-jumping, mixed biathlon relay, team figure-skating and sledge relay (men, women, pairs).
The decision was passed on the basis of a report to the IOC in Acapulco in October 2010. The IOC took into account such factors as popularity of the sport types and gender equality. Infrastructure expenses and the affect of the sports were taken into account as well.
