Sochi will never adopt a resort tax, Mayor Anatoly Pakhomov said at a press conference at the press-center of RIA Novosti.
This reduce the competitiveness of national resorts, he said.
Russian resort taxes were banned in 2004. People were previously obliged to pay taxes for visiting resorts.
Pahkomov said that Sochi proposed law-makers to lift the taxes on property and partly on land for sanatoriums and hotels undergoing reconstruction. The initiative is aimed at improving financial consitions and reducing prices for services.
Seven facilities are under reconstruction, six sanatoriums are having major renovation. They are receiving guests at the same time. Four more facilities will close for reconstruction in 2011.
Pakhomov believes that programs are needed to reduce prices for air and railway tickets to Sochi.
