The Russian National Counter-Terrorism Committee announced a counter-terrorism operation in Genukh, Kidero, Zekhida and Elbok in Dagestan’s Tsuntin District at 12.00 (Moscow time), RIA Novosti reports.
Police officers were attacked at Kidero at approximately 08.35 (Moscow time). Three police officers died, six were injured. Two militants were killed and one injured in counter-fire, the NCTC said.
Earlier reports said that two militants had been killed and one had escaped.
The counter-terrorism operation includes limitations and measures such as blocking of civilian transport to the area of the operation.
